The official opening was attended by Government, Universities, Academic institutions and more than 150 representatives of businesses, start-ups and media. It has provoked a great interest among all stakeholders – all uniting its resources toward three strategic goals:

-          More Bulgarian people have digital skills and choose career in the ICT

-          Filling the gap between education and business  and between demand and supply on the labour market

-          More support for the Bulgarian youth which is active in the field of STEM and ICT

“Bulgarian society is hungry for change and ICT can bring that change. I cannot recall another event recently which gathered the CEOs of more than 20 top ICT companies around the table together with the top Bulgarian Universities, Bulgarian Academy of Science and Government.”

We also highly appreciate the support of the European Commission and personally thank Mr. Constantijn van Oranje-Nassau, Head of cabinet of Vice-president Kroes, and Mr. Johnatan Murray, Director of Digital Europe for their attendance and active involvement.

The Memorandum has been signed by more than pledge holders including the Bulgarian Academy of Science, Sofia University, Technical University, New Bulgarian University, Bulgarian Association Of Information Technologies, Bulgarian Association of Software Companies, ICT Cluster, companies, start-ups and NGOs.

The Digital National Alliance has established three key priorities for the 1st year:

-          Launch initiatives targeting broader audience with the aim to help both young people and adults to acquire basic digital skills set.

-          Launch projects that will lead to a change in education content, teaching methods and approaches in both traditional education and life-long learning programs.

-          Support to young Bulgarian talents in any field (art and creative, science, sports and more) in acquiring ICT skills and provide them with the tools to become more successful on the worldwide stage.
