StarUP Weekend Sofia

A mobile application for Android and iOS, aimed at helping children study foreign languages, has won the jury prize and the special Vivacom award within the 54-hour StartUP Weekend Sofia. The event took place during April 5-7 at the Vivacom Telecom Central.

The award-winning app is called “talkie” and it has been developed within the event itself. The team was consisted of developers Nikolay Vassilev and Kalin Tsvetkov, the designer Maya Bankova, and Dimitar Dimitrov. Its software is focused on encouraging children’s foreign language skills and contains a collection of different tips and techniques such as using images, repetition of words or phrases based on the pictures, etc. Every word is being pronounced initially by the talkie and by the child afterwards.

StartUP Weekend Sofia is an annual event in the field of innovative entrepreneurship which has been held for the fourth time, as part of the global initiative StartUP Weekend featuring world’s leading cities of innovations and technologies.

This year’s StartUP Weekend Sofia has been organized in cooperation with Vivacom and according to the team behind it the Weekend has turned into Bulgaria’s biggest event of this kind.  Almost 130 people joined the mobile application development contest and presented 60 ideas. The best 27 projects had been selected by voting. 24 final teams worked on developing the products.
